On Tuesday, October 10th I had the privilege of attending my first Association of Fundraising Professionals luncheon at Pardini’s banquet facility in Fresno. The topic was “Twenty-first Century Storytelling” and there were two guest speakers. The first was Cynthia Fidel, a marketing and promotional expert, with the Jeffrey Scott Agency. Cynthia gave a great talk about how to make the most of social media promotion to get your organization and events attention online. She made herself available to answer questions during her presentation and really seemed to know a lot when it came to working with a small budget and making the most of your money online. I found her presentation very informative.

The second speaker was Carol Christenson, she is a video expert that helps organizations speak to potential donors through the lense of photographs and videos. The motto “a picture is worth a thousand words” came up and she was spot on when she said that in this digital era images are more effective than text. I had a lovely time, met the presenters and several members that also run the AFP valley chapter.
