This semester I have the honor in participating in the Humanics Mentoring Project and being mentored by Barbara Beauchamp (pictured in grey). Barbara is the director of Palm Village Senior Network, a 501(c)3 community benefit organization committed to providing seniors with opportunities to socialize and remain in an active lifestyle despite being retired. At our first meeting Barbara shared with me insight on her organization and how she could possibly help me in gaining knowledge in the community benefit organization field. I was intrigued at how much dedication she has for what she does and I began thinking instantly on my future goals. After our initial meeting, Barbara invited me for a second meeting to “Breakfast 4 The Dogs”, an annual fundraising event held at ARF-Animal Rescue of Fresno, held on October 14, 2017. Not only was the food great, we also toured the facility and I also had the opportunity to meet Linda Guthrie (pictured in the middle), president of ARF. This visit to ARF was really aspiring for me because I plan to start my own animal rescue/shelter one day. Barbara shares the same love for animals as I do and I can definitely see why I was paired with her. I can see her guiding me in pursuing my goal and I am very grateful to be her mentee. I look forward to our future meetings and learning more about the ins and outs of community benefit organizations.
